Google Maps adds dark mode, widgets to iOS app

In a new blog post, Google outlines some exciting changes coming to their Google Maps iOS app.

First, Google Maps will now support “dark mode” in iOS. This feature will be “rolling out in the coming weeks,” so there’s no telling when you may see it on your device, but keep your eyes peeled.

Google is also introducing a “nearby traffic” widget to see what traffic conditions are like around you in realtime. According to Google, “If you’re about to leave home, work, school, or any other place, you’ll know at a glance exactly what traffic is like, and can plan accordingly.”

Finally, there is Messages integration, which will allow you to share your location on Google Maps with a contact. “Just tap on the Google Maps button in iMessage and — voilà — your location will be shared for one hour by default.”
