Sports Illustrated Now Behind Paywall

The Sports Illustrated website is now behind a $4.99/mo paywall, as more and more media properties move to subscription-based revenue streams versus advertising-based ones (Patreon, Substack, Medium, etc.) One wonders how much this has to do with ad-/content-blockers and new cookie privacy protections enabled by default in many browsers.

It’s worth pointing out that Sports Illustrated is a part of Apple News+, which continues to be a great deal despite bafflingly poor traction among users. For $5 more than Sports Illustrated’s $4.99 a month users get access to the New Yorker, Wired, Time, The WSJ, and tons more. Seems like a no-brainer to me; maybe their new affiliate program will help turn things around.
